FC Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has defended the signing of Arturo Vidal following the club receiving criticism for signing a Bayern Munich outcast.
On Friday the club announced they had reached an agreement to sign the midfielder from Bayern Munich with a deal worth a reported 20m euros.
Valverde is confident that, like Paulinho, Vidal will prove his critics wrong by adding “energy” and “experience” to his side’s midfield.
“He has a lot of experience”
Having turned 31-years-old earlier this year, Bayern were keen to offload the player who was also struggling to break into their starting line-up.
The Bavarians had been offering Vidal round to different clubs which left many Barcelona supporters feeling very underwhelmed by the signing.
However, Valverde has hit back by saying:
“Vidal is someone we hope can add energy in midfield.
“We know he has a lot of experience. The amount of games he’s played for his previous teams is very good.
“He has a big presence and he doesn’t disappear on the pitch.
“It’s the same as with Paulinho. He has a different profile to what we already have, which is important.
“There was lots of controversy over the Paulinho deal last year and lots of criticism before he played one minute – and then he was a really good player for us.”
Arturo Vidal was offered one month ago to Manchester City and Manchester United by his agents but both clubs discard the signement. His age and his knee (two surgeries) were the reason of the refuse even the price was reasonable. @elchiringuitotv

Manchester United and Manchester City were both offered the chance to sign Arturo Vidal prior to his move to Barcelona, according to journalist Jose Alvarez.
The Chilean’s agent contacted both Manchester clubs the opportunity to sign his client, however, United and City rejected the player due to his age and previous knee problems.
