Barcelona considered Lucas Moura move, Tottenham’s price tag was too high – MD

Barcelona tried signing Lucas Moura

Spanish reporter Miguel Rico has issued a short but eye-catching piece of transfer news on Wednesday.

Writing in Mundo Deportivo, it’s claimed that Barcelona were interested in signing Lucas Moura from Tottenham this summer.

Barcelona allegedly considered moving for Moura as an alternative to Neymar.

As we now know after the close of the European transfer window yesterday, Neymar ended up staying at PSG.

Tottenham’s price tag for Lucas Moura was too high

So why didn’t Barcelona land Moura?

According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham were asking for more than 50 million euros for the attacking midfielder.

Moura, 27, is under contract with Spurs until 2022.

Tottenham paid around £25 million to buy Moura from PSG back in January of 2018.

Reading between the lines, however, the messages seems to be that Spurs would have sold Moura, had Barcelona paid up.

Lucas Moura’s Spurs stats this season

It’s been a strange start to the season for Tottenham.

After losing last year’s Champions League final, Mauricio Pochettino’s men opened with a come-from-behind win against Aston Villa.

Spurs then drew 2-2 at Man City, with Moura coming off the bench to head home his first of the season.

Newcastle then stunned Tottenham with a 1-0 away win in north London.

Last weekend, Spurs blew a 2-goal lead in the north London derby in a 2-2 draw at Arsenal.

Tottenham are ninth in the Premier League with 5 points from 4 games.
