The Barcelona superstar has donated 4.3 million pesos for the construction of a sports centre in Lanús – the money will go to improve the facilities of the Juan Piñeiro Municipal Park.
Messi donated the money through his foundation, 4.3 million pesos turns out to $280,000.
It allows us to do works of great magnitude for the children
The work to be carried out on the site – currently abandoned – will be the renovation of the bathrooms, the construction of changing rooms and offices for the administrative sector.
Messi, who since March 2010 has been UNICEF’s global ambassador, started his foundation in 2007, with the objective of carrying out solidarity actions for the progress of children and adolescents living in areas of social vulnerability.
Damián Sala, secretary of sports and youth of Buenos Aires, announced: “We are very grateful to the Messi Foundation because it allows us to do works of great magnitude for the children. It is a very important achievement because it is the first time that an entity of this size makes an important donation in Lanús.”
