As per a report from Spanish outlet Marca, Barcelona are the front-runners to clinch a deal for soon-to-be free agent Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis.
Luis, an experienced left-back, is currently enjoying his 2nd stint with Atletico.
The Brazilian international first joined Los Colchoneros from Deportivo in 2010, with his impressive showings in the Spanish capital having eventually seen Premier League giants Chelsea snap Luis up for a fee of around £16 million in 2014.
Following a largely-disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge, however, the no-nonsense stopper rejoined Atletico the following summer.
And, despite the South American having fallen behind World Cup winner Lucas Hernandez in the left-back pecking order at the Wanda Metropolitano over the last couple of seasons, Luis nevertheless continued to play an important role in Diego Simeone’s squad.
Nevertheless, though, the 33-year-old is set to be on the move come the summer.
Atletico have decided against offering Luis a new contract, with his current deal in the Spanish capital set to expire at the end of the month.
‘The Brazilian’s departure could be made official by both player and club within the next few days.’
And one club reportedly ready to pounce on the veteran’s impending free agent status are Atletico’s La Liga rivals Barcelona.
The Blaugrana are on the lookout for a reliable backup for Jordi Alba, with Marca having suggested that Luis, with his experience and knowledge of Spanish football, is viewed as the ideal addition to Ernesto Valverde’s squad.
It is added that a move to the Camp Nou is viewed as ‘a real possibility’ for the Brazilian.
Luis reportedly hopes to have his club future sorted before the Copa America gets underway on June 14th.
The stopper was named as part of Tite’s 23-man squad for the tournament last month:
