Barcelona & Man United’s Victor Lindelof
Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo have revealed an eye-catching story involving Barcelona and Man United’s Victor Lindelof.
According to MD, Barcelona have unsuccessfully tried to sign Lindelof this summer.
Man United have consistently told the Catalans that their 24-year-old Swedish international isn’t for sale.
Nevertheless, MD report that Barca still retain an interest in Lindelof:
Barca wants Lindelof, whose contract expires in 2021 and therefore could still be sold at a good price from Old Trafford.
Why do Barcelona want to sign Lindelof?
Mundo Deportivo list a couple of reasons.
Firstly, Barcelona are looking for additional cover at centre-half.
The club have four current options: Gerard Piqué, Clément Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and 19-year-old Jean-Clair Todibo.
The second reason why Barcelona want to sign Lindelof is because he “left a pleasant impression in the quarterfinals against Valverde.”

So will Barcelona sign Lindelof from Man United?
MD believe Barcelona could get the deal done:
Next season (Lindelof) will not be able to play in the (Champions League) as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team did not qualify, which pushes him to see the Barca option with even better eyes.
Last season, Lindelof played 31 times in the Premier League, scoring once.
In total in 2019-20, Lindelof made 40 appearances for Man United.
“Ole has solved problems. Look at Lindelof, he looks like the defender they thought they were buying.”

How much would Barcelona pay for Lindelof?
The subject of Lindelof’s price tag is left blank by Mundo Deportivo.
Man United spent £31 million to sign Lindelof from Benfica two years ago.
One has to assume that Man United would want to make a considerable profit, should they sell the Swede this summer.
But, seriously… Is Lindelof to Barcelona really going to happen?
Cynics may analyse the Lindelof to Barcelona rumour within the context of what’s going on with Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt.
It had seemed certain that de Ligt would move to the Camp Nou this summer.
However, the narrative has swung dramatically in the last few days, with Juventus now in pole position for the 19-year-old centre-half.
Returning to the Lindelof story, MD say that Barca have been contacting Man United for the past month.
Reading between the lines, the MD story on Lindelof appears to offer a shield to Barcelona against claims that they’ve sat on their laurels trying to sign de Ligt – a deal which now looks unlikely to happen.
