Barcelona eyeing Arsenal’s Lacazette as Antoine Griezmann alternative

Alexandre Lacazette

As per a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, La Liga giants Barcelona are considering a summer swoop for Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal stint

French hitman Lacazette made the move to the Emirates in the summer of 2017, after Arsenal agreed to fork over a fee with the potential to rise to 60 million Euro to Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.

And the 27-year-old has since gone on to establish himself as a firm fan-favourite in North London.

To this point in his Gunners’ career, Lacazette has notched 35 goals across all competitions.

However, while the French international has not proven overly-prolific, he has contributed to the Arsenal cause in a multitude of other ways.

Lacazette’s all-round game, this season in particular, has generally proven to be of the highest-order, with the former Lyon man’s work-rate and link-up play in particular having endeared him to the Arsenal faithful.

Barca bound?

As per the aforementioned report from Mundo Deportivo, though, Lacazette, who was yesterday named Arsenal’s Player of the Season, could be on the move this summer, if one of European football’s heavyweights get their way.

The outfit rumoured to be keen on the Frenchman’s signature are La Liga champions Barcelona.

The Blaugrana are on the lookout for a long-term replacement for the aging Luis Suarez, with Atletico Madrid standout Antoine Griezmann having long been touted as the man to fill the Uruguayan’s boots.

However, in the case that the Spanish champions are unable to get a deal done for the Frenchman, they will reportedly look to fellow countryman Lacazette.

Arsenal, for their part, are not thought to be keen to part with their star hitman.

As per MD, Barca, though, could attempt to coax the Gunners into a sale by offering players in part-exchange.

Andre Gomes and Samuel Umtiti are named as two potential makeweights in any deal.
