As per a report from Spanish outlet Sport, both Barcelona and Chelsea are readying summer proposals for Porto defender Alex Telles.
Telles, a 27-year-old left-back, has been plying his trade at the Estádio do Dragão since 2016.
On the back of a difficult couple of seasons spent in Turkey and Italy, Porto opted to hand Telles another opportunity to prove himself in Europe.
And to say that the Brazilian has since gone on to take full advantage of this chance would be putting it lightly.
Telles has rediscovered his brilliant best whilst in Portugal, with the Juventude youth product having established himself as one of the most productive full-backs not only in the Primeira Liga, but across all of European football.
The Porto star’s wand of a left foot has long proven a nightmare to deal with for opposing backlines, as evidenced by Telles’ staggering haul of 20 goals and 42 assists across all competitions over the last 3 seasons combined (including 2019/20).
Chelsea or Barcelona?
As such, Telles’ talents have inevitably resulted in widespread speculation over recent seasons that the stopper is being eyed up by some of Europe’s heavyweights.
In fact, it has come as something of a surprise that the 27-year-old has not yet been pried away from Iberia.
If the latest speculation stemming from Spain is to be believed, though, then this summer looks set to be the one in which Porto are finally forced to part ways with their star defender.
As per the aforementioned report from Sport, a pair of top European clubs are readying offers for Telles.
The outfits in question? Chelsea and Barcelona.
The rumoured interest of the former backs a previous report from A Bola earlier this week, which named Frank Lampard’s men as serious suitors of the gifted full-back.
Barca, though, are said to be equally interested, with the La Liga champions eyeing reinforcements to the left side of the club’s backline, having seemingly been left unimpressed by the performances of Junior Firpo to this point.
As a result, a head-to-head transfer market battle between the Blues and Blaugrana now looks imminent.
Porto, for their part, are prepared to sell, but will demand Telles’ €40 million release clause in full from any interested parties.
