Barcelona are determined to sign Sergio Aguero over Juventus

Barca bound

Barcelona are determined to sign Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero ahead of Juventus according to the front page of Sport this morning.

New President Joan Laporta had mentioned Aguero as part of his election campaign and it now seems that Barcelona are moving to secure the services of a player they know is capable of performing at the highest level and has experience of La Liga from his time at Atletico Madrid.

Aguero is set to bring his 10 year career in Manchester to an end when the current season finishes and is likely to have at least a couple of years left at the highest level, provided he remains injury free.

The report in Sport suggests that Barcelona are forcefully chasing the Argentinian international and will make what they see as a fair offer for his services. It will then be down to the player to see if he wishes to move to the Camp Nou and the possibility of playing alongside Leo Messi, his friend and long term international team mate, at club level.

Barcelona are aware that there is likely to be much interest in Aguero not only from the Premier League, but also from Italian giants Juventus. The article claims that Juventus have already made an offer of ten million euros a season, which would be an improvement on his City salary and benefits from a favourable tax position.

Sport claims that Barcelona are not prepared to match that number due to their salary limit but will attempt to strike a deal which has targets based on performance alongside a high base salary.

Aguero is not the only option Barcelona are considering of course. Erling Haaland is very much on their radar, but the sums involved in bringing him into the squad at time when the club is under financial restraints may prove to be too difficult.

Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez is also mentioned in the article as a possible target for Barcelona. Whilst he also isn’t likely to be cheap, Inter Milan may also be facing financial difficulties of their own this summer, due to their Chinese ownership, and it may be that the club will have to to sell some of their assets or be open to swap deals to help balance the books.

As is always the way, a new President will seek to make big name signings in his first transfer window and Barcelona will be an attractive option for any player.
