Scott McTominay vs Paul Pogba

It’s worth noting that we now know how the Pogba injury came about.

On Monday morning in the Times, details of how Pogba got injured have been revealed. It’s all Scott McTominay’s fault, as readers are told:

It has emerged that Scott McTominay is the player whose challenge on Paul Pogba has left United sweating on the France midfielder’s fitness before their Champions League round-of-16 showdown with Seville.

Pogba missed Saturday’s victory over Liverpool after sustaining an injury in United’s training session on the eve of the game. It is understood that Pogba was injured after being unintentionally caught by McTominay.

To be clear, there is no suggestion that McTominay took out Pogba on purpose.

Yet, the upshot of Pogba’s injury has been more game time for McTominay.

Other Man United injuries vs Sevilla

Pogba wasn’t the only big-named absentee at Man United training on Monday.

Injured quartet Andre Herrera, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones were all missing too.

However, in a boost for Man United, French star Anthony Martial was back in training after a period on the sidelines.

Man United will advance to the quarterfinals of the competition if they can beat Sevilla at Old Trafford.

Sevilla warmed up for Tuesday’s match by losing 2-0 at home to Valencia in La Liga last weekend.

That defeat left Sevilla fifth in the Spanish top flight, but they are hanging onto their top six status.

Villarreal are a point behind Sevilla, while Girona are two points adrift.
