Short at the back
The injury could leave Newcastle short at the back with Dummett, Lejuene and Yedlin all already on the sidelined.
Manager Rafa Benitez has already been using Mbemba to fill in at left-back due to Dummett’s injury.
Mbemba has played in all three of Newcastle’s league games so far this season, starting the first two and playing 56 minutes in the third.
From Mbemba’s perspective, the international break wasn’t all bad. The 23-year-old scored the opener in a 2-2 draw with Tunisia, before going off injured.
Next up for Newcastle is an away match at Swansea City.
