Man City & Wolves
Rumours have been flying about for months that Manchester City are keen on Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
Those rumours have been restarted on Tuesday by Sam Lee.
According to reports, Man City are keen on signing a defensive midfielder in the upcoming January window.
Brazilian Fernandinho is Pep Guardiola’s go-to guy currently at the Etihad.
Last weekend Fernandinho scored a lovely goal in the 5-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League.
However Fernandinho is 33, while his Sky Blues’ contract expires in 2020.
Last summer Man City were linked with a move for Jorginho, however he joined Chelsea instead.
According to Sam Lee, City now have three targets in the new year.
Ruben Neves on the shortlist
Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is one player Man City could sign.
The other players being considered are Frenkie De Jong from Ajax and Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele. Sam Lee reports:
City want to strengthen ahead of the second part of the season and are also hoping to bring in another midfielder in January, with Ruben Neves and Tanguy Ndombele featuring heavily in their thoughts.
The Midlands club are driving a hard bargain, insisting they want around £100m for the Portuguese 21-year-old. City are willing to pay top dollar for De Jong, but want Wolves to drop their demands for Neves. Oleksandr Zinchenko could be included in a deal, although a January sale would still be hard to swallow for Wolves fans.
On De Jong, who is also linked to Barcelona, Man City are said to be considering a €70 million initial offer plus €20m in bonuses.
Fernandinho says he feels like he’s 25 again and is in the best shape of his career, and Guardiola has hailed him as incredible. But time stops for no man and City are looking at several alternatives – bits on January plans/De Jong, Neves and Ndombele https://t.co/ZJGpROV1HN
