Bad news for Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier, good news for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Gareth Southgate’s England squad

On Wednesday Gareth Southgate will reveal his latest England squad.

2018 was a remarkable year for the Three Lions as they reestablished themselves on the world stage.

England defied all expectations reaching the 2018 World Cup semifinals.

Southgate has continued his excellent work with the national team by securing a spot in the Nations League semifinals.

England have been drawn against Holland in the final four, which will take place in Portugal on 6 June 2019.

Portugal face Switzerland in the other semifinal.

Bad news for Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier

Back at the 2018 World Cup, Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier was outstanding.

Trippier’s standout moment came when he scored a free-kick for England against Croatia in the semifinal.

However, on the eve of the latest England squad announcement, the Times believe that Trippier will be left out:

The Tottenham Hotspur right back is suffering from a glute injury and has not played since the north London derby ten days ago.

Good news for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Trippier’s injury could be excellent news for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wan-Bissaka has been a revelation since breaking into the Crystal Palace side at the end of last season.

Recent months have seen a slew of paper reports linking Wan-Bissaka with the likes of Man United and even Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old year is in line to receive his first England call-up this week. The Times report:

Wan-Bissaka’s form means that he is putting pressure on Southgate’s established right backs Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Trippier.

(Wan-Bissaka) is expected to feature for Aidy Boothroyd’s side in the Under-21 European Championship finals in Italy and San Marino this summer.

Other England predictions

After declaring himself as English, West Ham’s Declan Rice could receive his first call up for the national team.

Many will also be interested to see if Wolves centre-half Conor Coady will be picked by Southgate.

England face the Czech Republic and Montenegro in Euro 2020 qualifiers in the next few weeks.
