Bad news for Southampton’s Alex McCarthy & Tottenham’s Danny Rose

Southampton & Tottenham

Southampton goalie Alex McCarthy and Tottenham left-back Danny Rose have both left the England squad on Thursday.

Both McCarthy and Rose have been forced to return to their clubs with “minor injuries”.

Southampton have posted an update on McCarthy on their club’s website:

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has returned to the club from England duty as a precautionary measure.

To be clear, the precise nature of McCarthy’s injury isn’t made clear.

As for Danny Rose, it’s not big surprise the defender has returned to Spurs.

Rose pulled up in the final minutes of Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Cardiff last weekend in the Premier League.

Tottenham fans will now be concerned that Rose may have aggravated his injury while away with England.

Leicester defender Ben Chilwell has already been called up to the squad.

Update on Harry Kane

Sticking with the England squad and Tottenham, fears were heightened this week that Harry Kane is not fully fit.

Kane left a training session early on Tuesday which triggered chatter that the striker is struggling with fatigue.

However the Times have sought to allay those Kane fears on Thursday. Readers are told:

Harry Kane wants to play in England’s games against Croatia and Spain despite fears that a punishing schedule is catching up with the national team captain.

Kane, who has scored four goals in his past four matches for Tottenham Hotspur, is adamant that he can handle the workload and does not want to be left out of Southgate’s line-ups tomorrow or next Monday.
