Barcelona have received a blow in their summer transfer pursuit of their former midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
We recently told you about reports indicating that Barcelona were chasing after the Bayern Munich star. They had hoped that the presence of his brother Rafinha and the excitement of a rebuilding job could entice him to come home.
SER Catalunya report that they’ve made contact with Thiago but have been informed that he’s set to renew his Bayern contract. His current deal will expire in 2019. He personally told his ex-club of his career plans.
His new contract will probably keep him at the club until 2021.
Sources in Spain claim that Barcelona will need to sell players to generate funds for any new acquisitions.
The main transfer target for the Spanish champions is Lionel Messi. They’re currently negotiating a new contract with their greatest ever player and are said to be edging closer to agreeing a deal.
