Jermain Defoe is back before Newcastle
Bournemouth have received a big boost this weekend.
Veteran striker Jermain Defoe has returned to Bournemouth’s training this week as he steps up his recovery from injury.
35-year-old Defoe joined the Cherries last summer from Sunderland. He signed a three year deal to stay at the Vitality Stadium.
The striker has been seen since the Carabao Cup defeat at Chelsea back in December.
17-year-old Ethan Ampadu fouled Defoe after just two minutes of the game, and the forward hasn’t been seen since.

However, the England international could be back in the Cherries squad on Saturday against Newcastle.
While Defoe is unlikely to start for Eddie Howe, he may well be on the bench.
Defoe has scored three Premier League this season.
Bournemouth vs Newcastle preview
Eddie Howe’s side suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at Huddersfield Town last time out. Junior Stanislas equalised for the Cherries before they conceded a further three goals away from home.
Despite the result, Bournemouth remain in the top half of the table. Their last home match finished in a 2-1 win over Stoke.
Newcastle recorded a famous and hard-fought 1-0 win over Man United in their last Premier League game. Matt Ritchie scored the winner in the second half, while goalkeeper Martin Dubravka shone on his Premier League debut.
Newcastle head into the match 13th in the table, three points behind Bournemouth.
Steve Cook scored a 92nd-minute winner in Bournemouth’s 1-0 win at Newcastle in November.
