Bad news for Man City, terrible news for Burnley

Burnley vs Man City

The chockablock Premier League fixture list sees round 26 kick off at Saturday lunchtime with Burnley vs Man City.

Man City were in action on Wednesday night.

The Sky Blues had little bother beating West Brom 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Fernandinho fired the Sky Blues ahead in the 19th minute.

Kevin De Bruyne killed the match with a second in the 68th minute after good work from Raheem Sterling.

And Sterling was again the assist maker in the final minutes of the match as he teed up Sergio Aguero for a third.

Burnley were also in action on Wednesday night as they drew 1-1 away at Newcastle.

Nick Pope saved a Joselu penalty, before Jamaal Lascelles broke the deadlock with a 65th minute header from a corner.

But Burnley earned a point after Sam Vokes’ header was directed into the Toon net by Magpies keeper Karl Darlow.

Bad news for Man City, terrible news for Burnley

Both Man City are Burnley suffered injury setbacks in midweek.

Starting with the Premier League leaders, Pep Guardiola has two fresh problems before the match at Turf Moor.

During the first half of the West Brom game, Spanish midfielder David Silva picked up an injury near his waist. Silva is now a major doubt for Burnley.

Moreover, Guardiola also provided an update on Gabriel Jesus after the Baggies game.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian striker, Jesus may still be a month away from returning to action.

Burnley also suffered a blow as Steven Defour’s season may be over.

The Belgian missed the Newcastle game, and he could now be out for the rest of the campaign. As revealed on Burnley’s website:

Steven Defour has been ruled out for at least two months with a knee injury.

Scans showed the Clarets’ midfielder must undergo surgery to repair cartilage damage. Defour, 29, had been an ever-present for Burnley in the Premier League this season.
