Bad news for Cenk Tosun after Crystal Palace

Everton 3 – Crystal Palace 1

It may not be mathematically certain, but Everton took a big step towards confirming their Premier League survival last weekend.

Facing relegation strugglers Crystal Palace at Goodison Park, Everton notched a 3-1 home win.

That was the perfect tonic after the 5-1 thrashing to Arsenal.

Crystal Palace held their own in a competitive first half at Goodison Park, but at the start of the second period the Eagles lost their head.

Everton scored two goals in quick succession. Gylfi Sigurdsson opened for the Toffees, before striker Oumar Niasse doubled the lead.

Tom Davies scored a third for the hosts to kill the game, before Luka Milivojevic scored a late penalty for Palace.

Bad news for Cenk Tosun

What’s going on with Turkish international Cenk Tosun?

Signed for 27 million pounds from Besiktas in January, Tosun was an unused sub in the win over Palace.

Prior to the game, Sam Allardyce had been open about Tosun’s struggles in the Premier League this season.

And, following the Palace match, Big Sam once again made it clear that Tosun may not be seen much until the end of the season:

(Tosun) is struggling with the pace of the Premier League which happens to more players than it doesn’t to who come in in January.

There are more that struggle than actually succeed. As time goes on and the more we get closer to our safety the more we can release and see what he’s got.

There is no doubting his goal-scoring ability but you have to have the capabilities to get in those positions to score those goals and that is the hard bit.

Have Everton signed a duffer? Fans will be hoping that Tosun will be able to turn things around on Merseyside.
