Edinson Cavani’s injury update

On Monday the full extent of Cavani’s injury is set to be made public.

Uruguayan paper Ovacion are hoping that Cavani will make it, however they are already planning for the striker’s injury to be confirmed.

Uruguay didn’t train on Sunday, however Ovacion note that Cavani was limping around the training camp. The paper also announce “according to people close to the player, it is ‘highly unlikely’ that Cavani can play Friday against France.”

The most famous doctor in France, Michel Cymes, has also appeared on French TV to discuss Edinson Cavani’s calf injury. Cymes also believes there is no chance of the PSG striker playing.

Indeed, Cymes has forecasted that Cavani may be out of action for six weeks.

In the event Cavani is missing against France, Uruguay have three options: Cristhian Stuani, Maximiliano Gómez and Jonathan Urretaviscaya, in that order of priority.

As for France, Djibril Sidibé and Benjamin Mendy are both struggling with knocks.

Edinson Cavani has again missed Uruguay training on Monday.

Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is still hopeful, however, that Cavani can play against France. He said:

Cavani is well. He is very happy for our qualification and for his and the team’s performance the other day.

Today he worked on his recovery. He is emotionally well and let’s see how his recovery goes. We have to take it a day at a time and see how he feels.
