Awesome news for Roberto Firmino before Man City

Roberto Firmino & Liverpool

In the same week that Philippe Coutinho left Liverpool to join Barcelona, Jurgen Klopp took his squad away for hot weather training in the Gulf.

Yet one player who didn’t travel with the Liverpool squad to Dubai was Roberto Firmino.

Instead Firmino went away with wife Larissa Pereira for a mini European break.

Yet, while some Liverpool fans may have been concerned by Firmino splitting off from the rest of the squad, good news has emerged in the Times on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp to lock him down

The big news is that Liverpool are gearing up to sign Firmino to a new long term Liverpool deal.

The 26-year-old Brazilian international is under contract until 2020. The Times now report:

Liverpool want to secure the long-term future of Roberto Firmino and reflect his status as one of the team’s most important players.

According to the Football Leaks website, Firmino has a complex, incentivised contract with bonuses depending on the number of goals he scores. For the first five goals of the campaign he earned an additional £25,000, six to ten goals brought £45,000, 11 to 15 were worth £65,000 and every goal he now scores is worth £85,000.

He has 16 in total and it is likely that Liverpool will increase his base sum and keep any new deal heavily bonus-related.

Firmino is still waiting to hear if he’ll be punished for the incident with Everton’s Mason Holgate in last weekend’s FA Cup tie at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Man City

There’s little doubt about the biggest game in the Premier League this weekend.

The late game on Sunday is a doozy as Liverpool host Man City at Anfield.

Man City beat Liverpool 5-0 at the Etihad earlier in the season. Many will no doubt remember how Sadio Mane was sent off for a high boot on Ederson.

Yet, before Liverpool were reduced to 10 men they were the better team.

Fast forwarding to more recent times, Liverpool’s top goalscorer Mohamed Salah has missed the last two matches for the Reds.

Yet according to updates this week, Salah should return for the Man City match.
