Austria planning to call up Burnley’s Ashley Barnes

Barnes’ impressive Burnley form

Both Ashley Barnes and Burnley have been in impressive form in recent weeks.

Burnley had a horrible start to the season, in which they won just three of their first 19 Premier League games.

In their last eight league outings though, Burnley have been completely transformed.

The Clarets have won five and draw three of their last eight and have moved six points clear of the relegation zone.

Barnes has also improved dramatically in recent matches. The 29-year-old has scored five and assisted two in his last eight outings for Sean Dyche’s side.

The latest of Barnes’ goals gave his side a 2-1 win over 3rd place Tottenham this past weekend.

Austria to call up Barnes

As a result of his good form, Austrian outfit Kronen Zeitung is reporting that Barnes will be called up to Austria’s national team for their upcoming games.

All the paperwork to call Barnes up to Austria is said to have been submitted and there should be no problems with it.

Barnes has a grandmother who comes from Klagenfurt in Austria. Also, Barnes himself has also featured for their under-20 side back in 2008.

If Barnes is called-up by Austria his first lot of games will come in March and will be against Poland and Israel.

Austria were drawn in Group G for the Euro 2020 qualifiers along with Macedonia, Israel, Poland, Latvia and Slovenia.
