Newcastle 0 – Arsenal 1
Arsenal’s 2018/19 campaign ended in rather disappointing fashion.
The Gunners missed out on a top-four finish, and would be hammered 4-1 by Chelsea in the 2019 Europa League final.
As a result, they will likely have been keen to start this season on a high note.
Unai Emery’s side did exactly that on Sunday away to Newcastle.
Arsenal would come away with a 1-0 win, thanks to a 58th-minute strike from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang on Pepe
Despite having had a pretty productive transfer window, Arsenal did not start the Newcastle clash with any of their new signings.
Kieran Tierney is still out injured, but the likes of David Luiz and Nicolas Pepe had to settle for a place on the bench.
Pepe would eventually be given a run-out in the 71st minute, coming on for Reiss Nelson.
The winger looked quite bright on his PL debut, and could form a solid attacking trio along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
After the Newcastle win, Aubameyang spoke about the prospect of playing alongside the former Lille attacker:
“I’m looking forward to it, because he’s a really great player.
“He’s already shown in training that he’s capable of doing great things with us. Hopefully he will start soon.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.
