Atletico Madrid lining up move for Everton loanee

Jan Oblak

Olsen’s fine tournament

Robin Olsen enjoyed a fantastic tournament for Sweden, even though they were dumped out of the competition in the round of 16 by Ukraine.

The Roma goalkeeper, who was on loan at Everton for 2020-21, pulled off a string of fine saves in the group stages, helping Sweden top the group and avoid a trickier round of 16 tie.

The Swedish stopper has now left Everton, and with Rui Patricio set to join his parent club Roma, seems unlikely to be given any major game time in the Italian capital.

Atleti come calling

Although he may find himself on the bench here too, Atletico Madrid could well be an enticing prospect for the Swede, who turned 31 at the beginning of the year.

The Spanish side are the reigning champions of La Liga, and although it is likely impossible to see Olsen displacing World Class shot-stopper Jan Oblak, it could well be his best opportunity for a major trophy, something that his CV is lacking.

Alternatively, Olsen could move to a lower club that guarantees him first-team football on a regular basis, as Mat Ryan has done, snubbing Arsenal to join Real Sociedad. However, the Spanish capital could be too much to resist.
