The point left Barcelona five points clear of Real Madrid, while Atletico are a point further back.
Barca had to fight from a goal down after Saul Niguez fired Atleti ahead after 21 minutes.
Luis Suarez was the hero for the Catalans with a leveller late in the second half.
Gerard Pique targeted for hate
The fallout from the Catalan independence referendum continues to follow Gerard Pique.
The Barcelona defender was jeered and booed throughout the match in Madrid.
Indeed, the crowd got on Pique’s back in the warm up.
As the centre-half left the pitch before the game, the stadium erupted to taunt Pique. The Barcelona defender reacted by putting his fingers in his ears.
During the game, when Pique got on the ball, the crowd raised their voices once again.

Antoine Griezmann v Gerard Pique
Did all the hate get to Pique?
Atletico fans were cheering from the rafters at one point in the game, when Antoine Griezmann left the Barcelona defender looking silly.
Griezmann created a goal scoring opportunity following a sublime nutmeg on Pique.
