Diego Costa & Chelsea

Atletico Madrid chief does not have good news for Diego Costa

Not spoken much

Diego Costa seems to be on his way out of Chelsea.

Even someone not paying attention to transfer rumours this summer could tell you that, with Antonio Conte’s text to Costa, telling him he has no future at the club going viral, and Costa’s beach party in Brazil also making headlines for days.

However, the one club Costa wants to return to, the only club he’s really been linked with, Atletico Madrid, don’t seem to think he will be coming back.

Atletico president Cerezo has made it clear that the club are waiting for their transfer ban to end before doing anything when it comes to player recruitment, and that they also haven’t even spoken with the Chelsea player for a long time.

Cerezo told AS: “Costa is a Chelsea player at the moment, and you know for a long time now that we cannot sign anyone this summer.

“This shows that pyjamas come in all different colours. Everyone can put on whichever ones they want.

“Diego is a magnificent player, a great player, he was in Spain for many years.

“He has had a good spell in England, learned English, English customs.

“He will return to Spain someday… On holiday. Madrid is a lovely place to visit, if you have the money to enjoy it.

“It is a long time since I spoke with him.

“At least a year, since he left here. I have seen him with the (Spanish) national team, but spoken to him very little.”

No Chelsea return

Costa may not be going back to Atletico Madrid, but it seems that he won’t be playing for Chelsea again either.

The relationship between the forward and manager Antonio Conte was already damaged, and it seems that Costa’s social media video of him partying in Brazil, and telling Cesc Fabregas to ‘give Conte a hug‘ will have damaged their relationship beyond the point of a return.

Of course, that begs the question just what Costa will do come the start of the season, and if he will be forced out of Chelsea on loan for six months – or if there is an Atleti move on the horizon after all.
