Atletico boost/Juventus blow: Diego Godin fit as Douglas Costa ruled out

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has confirmed that Diego Godin will be fit to start in his side’s showdown with Juventus tomorrow night.

Atleti are set to travel to Turin for the second-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with the Bianconeri.

Los Colchoneros will head into the matchup as overwhelming favourites to advance to the competition’s quarter-finals, having secured a deserved 2-0 victory in the tie’s first-leg in Madrid on the 20th of February.

Late goals from Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin proved the difference between the sides, as Juventus’ quest to secure their first Champions League title in over 20 years took a major blow.

And the odds of the Italian champions securing a historic turnaround have this evening been lengthened further.

Speaking in a press conference a short time ago, Diego Simeone confirmed that Atleti star stopper Diego Godin has recovered from the quad problem that he picked up in training last week, and is set to feature from the start at the Allianz Stadium tomorrow night:

And, in a further blow for Juventus, Bianconeri boss Max Allegri has revealed that Douglas Costa, who had been expected to return to his side’s squad to face Atletico, suffered a setback in training, and will not be fit to take to the pitch tomorrow night:

‘Douglas Costa won’t be taking part, as he hurt himself again in training,’ Allegri told Sky Italia.

‘Evidently, it was a sign.’
