Aston Villa vs Burnley betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Aston Villa vs Burnley prediction: Aston Villa 1-0 Burnley

Aston Villa only have one league win to their name this season and will have earmarked Saturday’s game as a potential three points.

Burnley, who were not in midweek action, are in search of consecutive Premier League victories.

The Clarets are yet to win away from home this season. Burnley’s last Premier League away win came in April.

All four of Aston Villa’s points this season have come at home.

Aston Villa vs Burnley: Who will win?

Aston Villa are the bookies’ favourites due to home ground advantage. Villa are 11/8 to win the match while Burnley are 2/1 to win. The draw is priced at 12/5.

Villa have kept two consecutive clean sheets at home this season. Bet against both teams scoring at 21/20.

Mammoth striker Wesley impressed again at the Emirates last weekend. Wesley is 11/2 to open the scoring and 7/4 to score anytime.

Aston Villa vs Burnley Premier League match preview

Aston Villa host Burnley at Villa Park on Saturday for matchday 7 of the Premier League.

Villa have particularly struggled in the latter stages of matches, as was demonstrated at the Emirates, something Sean Dyche’s side will look to capitalise on with their physicality.

Dean Smith’s side ran out 3-1 winners on Wednesday night in their Carabao Cup clash against Brighton at the Amex. Jota Peleteiro, Conor Hourihane and Jack Grealish netted for the Villains, who will face Wolves in the fourth round.

Last weekend, Villa twice gave up a one-goal lead to lose 3-2 at Arsenal. John McGinn opened the scoring for the visitors and Wesley had Villa back in the lead on the hour mark. It was only the ninth time in Premier League history that a side came from behind with 10 men to win the match.

The defeat leaves Villa inside the relegation zone on four points from their six matches.

Burnley’s 2-0 win over Norwich last weekend propelled them into the top half of the table. Burnley begin the weekend in ninth position, level on 8 points with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Chelsea.

A win for Villa would almost certainly see them move out of the relegation zone, while a win for the visitors would cement their position in the top of the table.

The two sides have met four times in the Premier League, each winning one match and drawing the other two. Their last Premier League meeting came back in May 2015 where Danny Ings scored the only goal of the game at Villa Park.

All 12 Premier League goals in matches between these sides have been scored by British players, the most between any pair of teams this century.

Aston Villa team news vs Burnley

Dean Smith made nine changes on Wednesday from the side which lost at the Emirates.

Matt Targett made his return from a hamstring injury and could keep his place at left-back, with Neil Taylor a backup option.

Douglas Luiz started in midweek after being left out of the matchday squad against Arsenal. Luiz faces stiff competition from Marvelous Nakamba and Conor Hourihane for a spot alongside Jack Grealish and John McGinn in midfield.

Ahmed El Ghazi and Trezeguet are expected to start out wide, with Jota and Henri Lansbury set for the bench.

Tom Heaton will start in goal against his former side. Heaton made 188 league appearances in a six-year spell at the Clarets.

Saturday will come too soon for James Chester who is closing in on a return from a hamstring injury. Jonathan Kodija remains sidelined with a facial injury.

Burnley team news vs Aston Villa

Sean Dyche is unlikely to make too many changes from last weekend’s win.

Danny Drinkwater is ruled out with an ankle injury.

Johan Berg Gudmundsson could feature on the bench after making good progress with his calf problem. Jeff Hendrick keep his place out wide.

Matt Lowton and Ashley Westwood should both feature against their former club. Phil Bardsley is another former Villa player in the Burnley squad but is not expected to feature.
