Hull City vs Aston Villa
In their first competitive match since losing the Championship playoff final last term to Fulham, Aston Villa will take on Hull City on Monday night.
It’s already been an exhausting few weeks at Villa Park.
Aston Villa received some good news two weeks ago when billionaire buddies Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have bought into the famous English club.
It had recently been confirmed that Aston Villa owe 11 million pounds in transfer fees. While there are reports that Villa’s total debt problems stand at 75 million pounds.
Aston Villa vs Jorge Mendes
Aston Villa fans are now wondering how much business can be done before the transfer window closes.
In that regard, Steve Bruce faced the press on Friday, where he was quizzed about Jorge Mendes’ involvement in the club.
There has been speculation that Mendes is now in control of Villa’s transfer policy. That’s after Andre Moreira, a Mendes client, has agreed to join Villa.
But Bruce has rubbished those claims. He told the press the following:
I have been in it 20 years and I must deal with more agents than anyone. If Jorge Mendes can bring us a player, like he has done, then I am delighted.
If he can bring us the quality of player that helped Wolves win the division last year, I would be delighted.
But the thought Jorge Mendes is now running the club is, well, upsetting, because it is is nonsense.
I will deal with any agent, like I am dealing with 12 at the moment.
Tottenham’s Jack Grealish update
Steve Bruce also addressed the ongoing rumours linking Jack Grealish with a move to Tottenham.
Tottenham remain the only top six Premier League yet to make a signing this summer.
Spurs are facing a battle to sign Grealish. Bruce told the press:
I don’t really want to comment on negotiations but they have been going on a long time. There’s been discussions but no formal bid.
[The owners] don’t want to lose our best players. They are aware that every player has got their price but if somebody wants to buy our players, they will have to find a premium and make sure the owners are comfortable with it.
At the moment Spurs haven’t got anywhere near the figure the owners demand.
