Aston Villa downed by Southampton
Aston Villa’s season took another turn for the worse on Saturday, as they were comprehensively beaten by fellow relegation-battlers Southampton.
After being hammered by the Saints, Villa are now five league games without a win, and they have slipped into the bottom three.
It would be Danny Ings who opened the scoring for Southampton on Saturday.
Jack Stephens then added a second 10 minutes later.
Ings would add a third 51 minutes in to put the result beyond doubt.
Jack Grealish would score a consolation goal for Villa with 75 minutes played.

As well as falling into the relegation zone, Villa also lost one of their star men vs Southampton.
John McGinn would be taken off just eight minutes into the defeat.
Villa boss Dean Smith then confirmed after the clash that McGinn had gone for an x-ray:
“He’s gone for an x-ray. It doesn’t look good. He got his studs caught in the turf. John got ahead of their centre-half and he brings him down.
“We should get a free-kick, but we don’t. John gets frustrated and starts chasing the ball and unfortunately gets injured in front of us in the dugout.” As quoted by Aston Villa’s official website.
Now, on Sunday, Villa have confirmed that McGinn suffered an ankle fracture during the loss to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.

The Telegraph’s John Percy has also reported that the Scottish international is expected to be out for up to three months.
#avfc midfielder John McGinn has fractured his ankle and is expected to miss up to 3 months. Huge blow for Villa, but also a sense of relief as there were initial fears he would be ruled out for the season…
