Aston Villa vs Newcastle
Aston Villa and Newcastle are set to face off in a Premier League clash at 3 PM UK time on Saturday.
The two outfits will head into the match on the back of disappointing opening weekend defeats.
Newcastle would face off with West Ham in game-week one, taking the lead twice. However, after going 2-1 up after 40 minutes, the Magpies eventually succumbed to a rather disappointing 4-2 defeat.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, got their post-Jack Grealish era off to an altogether underwhelming start.
The Villans faced newly-promoted Watford in GW1, but would be 3-0 down after 67 minutes. They did pull two goals back late on, but it was too little, too late.
As a result, both sides are no doubt desperate to secure a positive result this time around.
Ollie Watkins injury update, Traore out of Newcastle game
Before Saturday’s meeting at Villa Park, Dean Smith would speak to the media on Friday morning.
During his press conference, Smith provided a fitness update on Ollie Watkins.
Watkins missed Villa’s loss to Watford through injury, and, as confirmed by his boss on Friday morning, the hitman is not expected to play vs Newcastle either.
Villa also have another injury blow to deal with, as Smith went on to reveal that Bertrand Traore picked up a hamstring problem vs Watford, and will therefore be out until just after the international break:
“Ollie Watkins, I don’t expect to play, he’s not healed as quick as we would like so far. Bertrand Traoré suffered a hamstring injury last week so he will be out until just after the international break.”
Dean Smith on squad fitness: “Ollie Watkins, I don’t expect to play, he’s not healed as quick as we would like so far.
