Aston Villa ‘agree’ to sign Southampton’s Matt Targett
Premier League newbies Aston Villa could be about to add a new left-back to their roster.
As confirmed in the Sunday Times, Villa are on the verge of signing Matt Targett from Southampton.
Targett, 23, is under contract at St Mary’s until 2022.
Last season, the defender scored once and chipped in with three assists in 16 Premier League appearances.
Targett made 21 appearances for the Saints in all competitions in 2018-19.
The Sunday Times reveal the following:
Aston Villa have agreed a deal of £14m plus £3m add-ons to sign the Southampton left-back Matt Targett.

Where does that leave Ryan Bertrand?
Ten days ago, the Daily Mail claimed that Ryan Bertrand may leave Southampton this summer.
29-year-old Bertrand is under contract at St Mary’s until 2021.
The Mail announced that Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are both interested in signing Bertrand.
One has to assume that if Targett joins Aston Villa, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl will be keen on keeping Bertrand at Southampton next season.
Southampton & Birmingham’s Che Adams
The Sunday Times also reveal that, should Southampton complete the deal with Aston Villa for Targett, the Saints are set to spend those funds quickly:
Southampton will look to reinvest the fee by closing a £15m deal for Bimingham striker Che Adams.
Southampton only scored 45 goals in 38 Premier League matches last year. Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse both scored seven goals in the league.
As for Che Adams, the 22-year-old attacker scored 22 goals in the Championship for Birmingham in 2018-19.
Will Adams continue to be as prolific in the Premier League?
