Aston Villa 0-3 Man United: Mason Greenwood’s staggering stats highlight comfortable Red Devils win

Manchester United’s win over Aston Villa this evening has seen a whole host of impressive stats surrounding the form of youngster Mason Greenwood come to light online.

United continue to impress

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men visited Villa Park a short time ago, for their latest Premier League outing.

The Red Devils no doubt headed into proceedings brimming with confidence, amid a scintillating spell of recent form.

After putting Bournemouth to the sword by 5 goals to 2 last weekend, United stretched their unbeaten run to 16 outings across all competitions.

As such, it came as little surprise when, following the 90 minutes in Aston this evening, it was the visitors who bagged all 3 points, to make it 5 wins from 6 since the return of English football last month.

The irrepressible Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring with 27 minutes on the clock, albeit in controversial circumstances.

After attempting to turn on the edge of the Aston Villa box, the Portuguese midfielder went to ground under a challenge from Ezri Konsa, with referee Jon Moss having shown little hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot.

Upon replays being broadcast, however, it became clear that it was in fact Fernandes who had stepped on Konsa’s leg.

A subsequent VAR check surprisingly came to the conclusion that Moss had made the right call, though, with Fernandes having stepped up to dispatch the ensuing spot-kick with minimal fuss.

Any hopes of a Villa comeback were then extinguished on the stroke of half-time.

A lightning Manchester United breakaway saw Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial exchange passes, before the latter went on to unleash an unstoppable drive beyond Pepe Reina from the edge of the box.

The early exchanges following the interval, meanwhile, followed much the same pattern.

Dean Smith’s hosts could not be accused of a lack of trying, with Villa having simply been devoid of any sort of cutting edge around the United box.

The Red Devils, on the other hand, looked dangerous every time they burst forward, eventually resulting in Paul Pogba making it 3-0 just shy of the hour mark.

A cleverly worked corner saw the ever-involved Bruno Fernandes pick out Pogba on the edge of the Villa box, with the Frenchman having proceeded to bend a sumptuous effort around the advancing Jack Grealish and into the bottom corner of the home side’s net.

And, after the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford went close over the remaining half-hour, Jon Moss’ final-whistle eventually blew with the score at 3-0, as the visitors moved to within a point of the Premier League’s top-4.

Gifted Greenwood

Evidently, based on the lopsided scoreline, a number of Manchester United’s stars impressed at Villa Park this evening.

Bruno Fernandes was once again pivotal with a hand in a pair of goals, while Paul Pogba continues to look better every time he takes to the pitch.

As outlined above, though, on the back of the Red Devils’ 5th-straight win, the majority of the talk has once again surrounded the form of Mason Greenwood.

English attacker Greenwood has established himself as an undisputed starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the last couple of weeks, and to say that the United youth product has repaid the faith of his manager would be putting it lightly.

Despite being just 18 years of age, Greenwood already looks a genuine star in the making, with the teen’s blossoming partnership alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial certain to induce headaches across Premier League backlines for years to come.

After finding the net 3 times in his previous 2 appearances, Greenwood went on to add another goal to his growing collection tonight, courtesy of a sweet right-footed strike:

And it is this effort which has since given rise to a whole host of eye-watering statistics, the best of which are showcased below:
