Ashes live streaming: England vs Australia second test preview

Edgbaston used to be a fortress for England, and then Steve Smith came along and shattered that illusion in the first test.

Australia won by a whopping 251 runs in the first test and there are now fears that the Aussies will win this series at a canter.

There were some extenuating circumstances for England in the first test, not least the crucial early injury to Jimmy Anderson.

Plus, the England team were still coming to terms with an epic World Cup victory on home soil, that may well have left many of their players jaded for such a big Test series.

Ultimately though, it was Steve Smith that made the difference. Now restored to the Australian team, Smith put in one of the all-time great Ashes performances.

Smith scored 144 runs in the first innings and rescued Australia from posting a low total in the first innings.

The former Australian captain then added 142 runs in Australia’s second innings and the big question ahead of the second test is:

Ashes live streaming: Can England remove Steve Smith for a low score?

Enter Jofra Archer.

The bowler will make his Test debut in the cauldron of the Ashes at Lord’s and there are huge expectations for Jofra.

After excelling at the Cricket World Cup, and bowling the Super Over in the final against New Zealand, there is little doubt that Archer will be a thorn in the side of the Australian batsmen.

Further encouragement for England comes from Chris Woakes’ excellent wicket-taking ability at Lord’s

Were England to lose this test at the “Home of Cricket” it would be difficult to see how they can respond in the rest of the series.

But, if Archer and Woakes can prove that Steve Smith is indeed human, we will have some series on our hands!

Ashes live streaming: What does the weather have in store in London?

At Edgbaston, in the first test, we got all five days play in and the weather had no impact on the game.

This is not likely to be the case at Lord’s.

The forecast is for a lot of rain on Wednesday & for more rain over the weekend. Will either side be able to take advantage when its dry?
