Arteta: Liverpool success can be inspiration for Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has, ahead of side’s clash with Sheffield United, been speaking about how Liverpool can be an inspiration for the Gunners.

Sheffield United vs Arsenal

Arsenal’s 2019/20 campaign has most certainly been one to forget so far.

They have already missed out on the chance to clinch silverware in the League Cup and Europa League, with the prospect of securing some form of European football for next season also looking a tough ask.

However, one way in which Arsenal could put some shine on an otherwise dismal campaign would be to lift the FA Cup.

The Gunners have won the competition a record 13 times, and are currently into this season’s quarter-finals.

Standing in their way on Sunday are Sheffield United, a side that probably worried many at Arsenal a few months ago.

However, the north Londoners can take positives from the fact that the previously high-flying Blades have been in rather poor form since the campaign’s resumption.

Arteta on Liverpool

Mikel Arteta would hold his pre-Sheffield United press conference on Friday evening.

During the presser, Arteta was drawn on Liverpool’s recent Premier League title win.

Jurgen Klopp’s first season on Merseyside saw the Reds finish 8th in the English top-flight, a not too dissimilar position to the one Arsenal find themselves in now.

And when asked during his presser if he sees the recently crowned Premier League champions as an inspiration for what he wants to achieve, the Spanish tactician stated:

“Well yes because they were in a very difficult position four years ago and they made a lot of right decisions. Some difficult decisions, some unpopular decisions but the right decisions for them.

“They have been very consistent with their messages, very clear messages from top to bottom, and a ruthless mentality to go every game with the mentality to win the game.”
