Arteta confirms Arsenal are yet to open contract negotiations with Lacazette

Arsenal see off West Ham

Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off pitted two London rivals against one another.

Arsenal welcomed West Ham to the Emirates, hoping to make it two wins from two to start the season.

West Ham, on the other hand, were looking to bounce back from an opening day defeat to Newcastle.

But, after Alexandre Lacazette fired the Gunners into the lead after 25 minutes on Saturday, David Moyes’ men appeared to be staring a second successive loss in the face.

However, Michail Antonio went on to equalise for West Ham just before the break, with the visitors having actually dominated much of the remainder of the clash.

Despite West Ham’s impressive display, though, they were unable to find a second goal.

And the Hammers were then made to pay for their lack of cutting edge, when substitute Eddie Nketiah netted an 85th-minute Arsenal winner.

Arteta on Lacazette negotiations

As is customary, Mikel Arteta held a post-match press conference following Saturday’s clash.

The Spaniard was drawn on a number of topics during the presser, one of which surrounded the future of Alexandre Lacazette.

The Frenchman has less than two years left on his current contract, and has previously been linked with a move to Spain.

Yet, despite assuring that he remains ‘really happy’ with Lacazette, Arteta also confirmed post-West Ham that Arsenal are yet to open contract negotiations with the attacker:

“At the moment we haven’t started any negotiations. We have a lot of things still to do in this market.

“He is a player I am really happy with. I think we showed him a lot of faith since I arrived here. But we cannot stop any speculation.

“We know that any player that is under two years contract is always going to be talked about.”
