Arsenal 2 – Tottenham 0
Arsenal won the north London derby! And, in convincing fashion!
All the build up may have been all about how many Spurs players would get in a combined XI with Arsenal, but the Gunners were better in every department.
Arsenal produced an excellent opening 45 minutes – their best of the season so far.
And, the Gunners were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez.
Spurs rarely threatened in the second half and it is now 11 Premier League wins on the bounce at The Emirates.
Things are looking great for Arsenal right now, but there is one cloud on the horizon…
Will Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez stay at Arsenal?
Throughout last season and every recent transfer window, the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have been widely reported.
As is well known, the two Arsenal “Galacticos” are out of contract come the end of this season.
Ozil, who was excellent against Spurs, continues to be linked with a free transfer to Manchester United.
Manchester City and PSG are the front runners for Alexis Sanchez.
Arsene Wenger all but admits Ozil & Sanchez are gone
After the north London derby, Arsene Wenger was asked whether Ozil and Sanchez could stay after a great win for the Gunners.
With Ozil and Sanchez central to how things panned out, with the former bagging an assist and the latter the second goal.
Wenger’s answer as described below is pretty bad news for Arsenal and their fans.
Surely the Gunners should sell both in January and at least recoup some cash for the pair?
AW asked if results like today can convince Ozil & Alexis to sign. "No, it's not enough. The quality of the contract must be good too. They love the club, they want to stay, but there are other top clubs out there who offer good contracts as well."
