“Giroud swears he did nothing at all”
In his post match interview, Arsene Wenger said that forward Olivier Giroud ‘swore he did nothing wrong’ when he was sent off for an altercation with Marco Veratti.
Giroud, who was sent off in first game of last season’s Champions League too, was already on a yellow card when he appeared to shove Marco Verratti to the ground, in an off-the-ball incident.
However, Wenger, who is yet to watch the incident back, has defended his striker by stating “I believe Giroud, that he did nothing at all”.
Wenger smug after starting Ospina
Wenger also looked rather smug when he was asked about the decision to start David Ospina over Petr Cech tonight.
Ospina played very well and kept Arsenal in the game at times tonight, earning himself the man of the match award.
However, prior to kick-off, many people questioned Wenger’s decision to play Ospina over Cech, and in the end were made to look silly.
When asked about why he started Ospina tonight, Wenger said “I have an advantage, I see them everyday in training and that helps.”
