Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe racked up a pair of hugely-impressive stats vs Liverpool

Two statistics surrounding the performance of Arsenal attacker Nicolas Pepe versus Liverpool yesterday evening have been garnering plenty of attention online.

Liverpool down Arsenal

Unai Emery’s men travelled to Anfield 24 hours ago, for a meeting of the final two sides with 100% records in the Premier League this term.

When all was said and done, though, a minimum of one of the outfits were guaranteed to see their perfect start brought to an end.

And, in the end, it was Arsenal who lost out.

A typically-invigorating matchup on Merseyside eventually saw the hosts emerge 3-1 victors.

Goals from Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah (2) saw Liverpool race out to an unassailable 3-0 lead, with Lucas Torreira’s late strike having proved little more than a consolation at the final-whistle.

Despite the result, though, there were clear positives to take away from their first defeat of the season for Arsenal.

The Gunners remained very much in proceedings throughout the first-half, and no doubt counted themselves unfortunate to head into the interval behind.

Another encouraging note for Unai Emery’s side, meanwhile, was the performance of summer signing Nicolas Pepe.

Ivorian attacker Pepe was handed his first start in Arsenal’s colours yesterday evening, lining out alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a two-pronged attack.

The former Lille man went on to cause Liverpool’s back-line plenty of problems, showcasing his blistering pace, quick feet and eye for goal throughout.
