Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi may face ban following Maupay incident vs Brighton – Mirror

Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi could be facing some form of punishment following an incident between the Frenchman and Brighton’s Neal Maupay on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal blow 1-0 lead

Saturday’s 3pm Premier League clash pitted Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal against Brighton.

The Gunners had already resumed their league campaign earlier this week, but found themselves on the end of a humbling 3-0 loss vs Manchester City.

Saturday’s trip to the Amex, though, represented, on paper at least, a much easier challenge.

The Seagulls were firmly in the relegation scrap ahead of kick-off, and were actually without a league win in 2020.

And after a fairly mediocre opening 60 minutes or so, the visitors eventually opened the scoring thanks to a superb curling effort from Nicolas Pepe.

However, Arsenal’s jubilation was short-lived, as Lewis Dunk levelled things up with 15 minutes of normal time remaining.

Neal Maupay would then deal Arsenal a hammer blow in second-half injury time, chipping substitute keeper Emiliano Martinez to secure all three points for Graham Potter’s outfit.

Guendouzi may be banned

Now, to add insult to injury, Arsenal could be set to lose yet another player in the aftermath of the Brighton clash.

Gunners No.1 Bernd Leno was withdrawn after 40 minutes on Saturday, after landing awkwardly following a collision with Neal Maupay.

The German evidently took exception to the Seagulls star’s challenge, as, when he was being stretchered off, Leno appeared to have a few choice words for Maupay:

Another Arsenal star seemingly unimpressed with Maupay on Saturday was Matteo Guendouzi.

Following the final whistle, the Frenchman was involved in an altercation with Maupay, with images having showcased the Arsenal midfielder with his hand around the throat of the striker.

And now, according to the Mirror, Guendouzi may well find himself in hot water over the incident.

It is reported that Matteo Guendouzi could be facing an FA charge and potential ban after his bust-up at Brighton.

The Mirror also add that Football Association chiefs are waiting to see whether the row is included in referee Martin Atkinson’s report before deciding if they will take action.
