As per a report from the Guardian tonight, Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin will be out of action for the remainder of the season, after the injury picked up by the Spaniard during the Gunners’ clash with Chelsea over the weekend was diagnosed as an ACL rupture.
Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea
Arsenal welcomed their London rivals to the Emirates on Saturday evening, in a crunch matchup in the race for a spot in the Premier League’s top-4.
Unai Emery’s men sat 6 points behind 4th-placed Chelsea ahead of kick-off, with the hosts having no doubt headed into proceedings aware that a defeat would essentially have killed off their hopes of playing in the Champions League next season.
And the North Londoners’ subsequent performance certainly painted the picture of a side with their entire campaign on the line.
Arsenal came out of the blocks like a house on fire, quickly putting their shell-shocked opponents on the back-foot.
And the hosts were rewarded for their impressive endeavours inside the opening quarter of an hour, when Alexandre Lacazette gave Arsenal the lead.
After finding space in the Chelsea box, the French hitman slammed a superb finish into the roof of the visitors’ net from a tight angle.
And the Gunners went on to add to their advantage shortly before the interval.
Laurent Koscielny, Man of the Match on Saturday evening, timed his header all wrong in the Chelsea penalty box, but saw his shouldered effort somehow loop its way past the helpless Kepa and into the top-corner of the Blues’ goal.

This was how things remained until full-time, with a stout defensive showing from Arsenal over the course of the second-half having eventually seen Bernd Leno rewarded with just his 2nd clean sheet of the Premier League season.
However, an otherwise positive day for the Gunners was soured by an injury picked up by Hector Bellerin.
The stopper pulled up suddenly while sprinting during the second-half, with Bellerin’s screams of pain having suggested a serious problem.
The Spaniard was subsequently stretchered off in agony, with Arsenal’s fans having since faced an anxious wait to discover the severity of their first-choice right-back’s injury.
And, as per the aforementioned report from the Guardian tonight, it is bad news for the Gunners’ faithful.
Bellerin is said to have been diagnosed with a ruptured crucial ligament in his left knee.
As such, the 23-year-old is set to be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
The Guardian add:
‘Bellerin will seek further medical opinions over the coming days. This will help to place an exact time-frame on his absence. But a cruciate rupture normally involves a minimum of six months out.’
