Arsenal 3- Rennes 0
Arsenal hosted Rennes on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa League tie.
The Gunners headed into the game with a two-goal deficit to overcome after losing the first leg 3-1.
Things got off to a perfect start for Unai Emery’s men though as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put them 1-0 up inside five minutes.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles then doubled Arsenal’s lead just 10 minutes later.
If the score had remained 2-0 Arsenal would have progressed on away goals but Aubameyang would strike once again in the 75th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
Arsenal will now be one of the eight teams in the quarter-final draw on Friday afternoon.
And then there were eight!

Aubameyang the superhero
After the Rennes game, it was Arsenal’s Aubameyang that stole the headlines.
The striker has previously been known for wearing superhero masks after scoring goals.
While playing for Borussia Dortmund, Aubameyang wore both Batman and Spiderman masks to celebrate.
Then, on Thursday vs Rennes, the Arsenal forward celebrated in a Black Panther mask.
Aubameyang has since explained why he chose to wear said mask:
“I needed something, a mask to represent me and the Black Panther represents me.
“In Gabon, we call the national team the Panthers so that’s why I wore it.
“[We were] a bit nervous. We took a while to close the game and I missed two chances but it was important to win tonight.
“The most important thing is that we won and everybody is happy and proud.”As quoted by the Evening Standard.
