Arsenal boss Arteta labels Man City ‘the best team in Europe at the moment’
Arsenal vs Man City
The weekend’s marquee Premier League tie is set to play out on Sunday afternoon.
Arsenal will welcome Manchester City to the Emirates, as Mikel Arteta again faces off with former mentor Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola has come out on top in each meeting between the pair since Arteta took the Arsenal job, barring a 2-0 defeat in the FA Cup last July.
City also now look a much, much stronger side than the one which was ousted from the FA Cup in the summer.
The Sky Blues are currently on a 17-game winning run across all competitions, with 12 of those victories having come in the league.
After seeing off Everton in their game in hand on Wednesday, meanwhile, City now sit 10 points clear atop the Premier League table.
As for Arsenal, they head into the weekend down in 10th place. The Gunners did down Leeds in their last league outing, but the club’s recent form, all told, has been pretty patchy.
Arteta praises City
Ahead of Sunday’s tie, Mikel Arteta has been full of praise for his side’s upcoming opponents.
The Spaniard of course worked under Guardiola during City’s most successful ever spell.
The Sky Blues then endured something of a decline, winning just the League Cup last season, and slipping well off the pace of Premier League champions Liverpool.
Now, though, Arteta is of the opinion that City have come through their ‘difficult moment’, and have established themselves as ‘the best team in Europe’:
“What they have done is react to a difficult moment.
“A big team has to do that when everyone is doubting their ability to compete again and be the team that they are.
“They reacted in a really convincing way, all united and doing what they do best – being very consistent and winning games very comfortably.
“I think they are the best team in Europe at the moment.
“The way they are performing, the football they are playing and the consistency of the results, take all that and it makes them the best team.
“So we have a big but, as well, a very exciting challenge ahead of us on Sunday.”
