Arsene Wenger waving goodbye

Arsenal’s £200m spending spree on five stars revealed

£200m on five stars

Following their horror defeat at Crystal Palace on Monday night, it’s another dire week at Arsenal.

Many fans can’t understand why the club seem intent on keeping Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium – although reports on Wednesday suggest the Gunners may slowly be coming to the realisation that Wenger is no longer the right man to take the club forward.

Either way, the Mirror have an eye-catching gossip piece in their paper today, which claims there’s going to be a major overhaul of players this summer at Arsenal.

The headline news is that the Gunners plan to spend £200m on five new recruits.

Six players may leave

Even though Arsenal are known to have plenty of money in the bank, the Mirror paint the picture that Arsenal will sell before they buy.

That could lead to six players exiting the club in the summer, but one player tipped to stay is Alexis Sanchez. On the Chilean, the tabloid reports:

Alexis Sanchez has been a target for Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, but there is a feeling he is ready to give it one more year – especially as that may mean him becoming a free-agent at the end of next season.

So who is set to walk the plank?

Players linked with possible Arsenal departures include Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere (could be sold for £20m), Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain, Olivier Giroud (“fed-up at being a bit-part player”), David Ospina and Lucas Perez.

Five players to sign

Arsenal are also said to be gearing up for a major summer spending spree as a goalie, two full-backs, a defensive midfielder and forward are all targeted.

Beginning up front, Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette is Arsenal’s top target in attack. The Mirror further report:

Two Celtic stars, left-back Kieran Tierney and forward Moussa Dembele, are also on the radar.

Arsenal have joined Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha’s growing list of admirers, with Tottenham and Manchester City also in the hunt.

Sunderland starlet Jordan Pickford and Stoke’s England international Jack Butland are two potential keeper targets.

Will Arsenal bag any of these players?

We’ll have to wait and see…
