Arsenal are going to play it by ear
Bellerin pulls out of Spain U21 squad
Hector Bellerin has been forced to pull out of the Spain U21 squad, as reported by Marca today.
Given how pivotal a player he’s become for Arsenal over the past couple of years, it’s perhaps surprising that Bellerin is even still with the U21s, and that he isn’t yet deemed ready for the senior squad.
Bellerin has already been capped at senior level, but it seems they feel he needs a little more time at U21 level before fully graduating him – and to be fair, he has Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal for competition.
Bellerin was set to play against Austria this Friday in Spain U21s European Championship qualifier, but he’s now been forced to withdraw, with what looks like a bruised ear, of all things.
Ultimately good news for Arsenal
The Spanish FA haven’t actually revealed what the injury is, but Bellerin essentially revealed it himself on Snapchat today.
A bruised ear is quite a rare and bizarre injury, but it’s ultimately probably good news for Arsenal: his ear will heal in no time, and he’ll surely be ready for Arsenal’s next Premier League game when domestic football resumes after the international break.
