Arsenal vs Sheffield United betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Arsenal vs Sheffield United prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Sheffield United

A big game for both at the Emirates.

Sheffield United travel to North London above Arsenal after their remarkable start to the season.

The Gunners though are showing sings of life under Mikel Arteta and will be looking to continue their mini-unbeaten run.

The Blades beat Arsenal at Bramall Lane and could become the first promoted side to complete a league double over Arsenal since Blackburn in 1992/93.

This is a tough one to call.

Alexandre Lacazette will lead the line for Arsenal. The Frenchman is 3/1 to open the scoring and 23/20 to score anytime.

Nicolas Pépé will also be a threat. The winger from Côte d’Ivoire is 6/1 to score first and 12/5 to score in back to back home league games.

Lys Mousset scored the winner in the reverse fixture. Mousset is 9/2 to break the deadlock and 15/8 to score in a third-successive appearance against Arsenal.

John Fleck has also chipped in with a few goals. He is 10/1 to score first and 4/1 to score anytime.

Both Pépé and Lacazette to score is 13/2.

Both Mesut Özil and Gabriel Martinelli to score is 16/1.

Both David McGoldrick and Mousset to score is 12/1.

Can Arsenal continue to climb the table?

Last weekend, they took the lead at Selhurst Park through top-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, in the second half, Crystal Palace equalised before Aubameyang was sent off in the 1-1 draw.

That means the have failed to win five Premier League games when leading at half-time this season, their joint-highest total in a single campaign.

However, they remain unbeaten in 2020 following a 2-0 win over Manchester United and a 1-0 victory over Leeds in the FA Cup.

In the Premier League they are tenth, behind Crystal Palace, and a distant 11 points off the top four.

The FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League must therefore be the priorities but, if they’re to have a run in either, they must build some momentum in the league.

Arsenal are actually unbeaten in their last 21 Premier League matches that have kicked off at 15:00 on a Saturday, since losing 2-1 at West Brom in November 2015.

Their last such defeat at home was against Aston Villa in August 2013.

However, in more recent times, the Gunners have won only one of their last seven home league games.

Will the Arteta revolution be enough to see them overcome Sheffield United?

Sheffield United meanwhile have been sensational since promotion.

Their 1-0 victory over Arsenal on 21 October is just one of many highlights from the season so far.

Going into their lat match at home to West Ham they’d taken just one point from three.

However, they returned to winning ways as Oli McBurnie scored the only goal of the game in that one.

The drama did not end there though; the Hammers thought they’d snatched a point with a 93rd minute equaliser but it was eventually ruled out by VAR.

So Chris Wilder’s side, just about, got their eighth win of the season so far which takes them up to sixth place.

In 2019, they lost as many away games in England as Barcelona (1) and that was at Manchester City.

In their first away match of 2020, they lost 2-0 at Anfield but it takes a seriously good side to defeat them.

The Blades are currently four points above their hosts.

How big or small will that points difference be after this one?

Despite a second consecutive midweek with no game, Arsenal’s squad is, somewhat, stretched to the limits.

Bernd Leno’s tally of 83 is the second-most saves in the Premier League and that tally could rise here.

In defence, there is no Héctor Bellerín, Calum Chambers, Kieran Tierney or Sead Kolašinac.

So, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Bukayo Saka will continue to fill in at full-back.

At centre-back, Rob Holding is unlikely to be fit so it’ll be David Luiz and Sokratis Papastathopoulos again.

Konstantinos Mavropanos has joined German second-tier strugglers FC Nürnberg on loan; Shkodran Mustafi could also leave this month.

In midfield, Lucas Torreira hobbled off at Selhurst Park last Saturday.

So, Mattéo Guendouzi is expected to come in alongside Granit Xhaka.

Further forward, the Gunners are without their main man.

Last weekend, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became the first Arsenal player to score and be sent off in a Premier League game since Mikel Arteta. who did so also against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, in October 2013.

So, the Gabonese marksman is suspended for this match as well as Chelsea away and Bournemouth away in the FA Cup.

His absence means everybody else needs to step up.

Mesut Özil, who’s started every match under Arteta, will keep his place as will Nicolas Pépé.

Gabriel Martinelli will come into the side, looking to add to his ten goals this season.

Up front, Alexandre Lacazette has just six goals from 19 appearances in this campaign but will be hoping to thrive as the main man.

Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson will be on the bench; Emile Smith Rowe and Tyreece John-Jules have both left on loan.

Will this Arsenal side have enough to beat Sheffield United?

As for Chris Wilder’s side, one of the keys to their success has been the fact that their XI almost never changes.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson has now kept eight clean sheets in the Premier League this season, the joint-most.

In defence, the back three of John Egan, Jack O’Connell and Chris Basham have missed just one league game between them.

Likewise, wing-backs Enda Stevens and George Baldock are virtual ever presents.

They’ve been involved in three and six goals respectively this season.

Phil Jagielka will be on the bench; he went in goal for Sheffield United in a 1-0 home win over Arsenal in 2007.

In midfield, Oliver Noorwood and John Lundstram will start, as always.

As will John Fleck who has been involved in the most Premier League goals this season without any of them coming away from home.

His four goals and two assists have all come at Bramall Lane.

However, since the start of last season, he has assisted 12 league goals for Sheffield United, four more than any teammate.

Up front is the only position Wilder likes to rotate.

David McGoldrick has had 35 shots without scoring in the league this season, more than any other player.

However, his work rate means he is an integral part of this side.

Alongside him, despite scoring last weekend, Oli McBurnie could drop out for Lys Mousset who scored in both of his appearance against the Gunners in 2019.

Will this side leave North London with a point or even all three?
