Arsenal vs Cardiff City betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Arsenal vs Cardiff City prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Cardiff City

Football put firmly into perspective.

The disappearance of Cardiff’s news signing Emiliano Sala and his pilot last week have made the actual football match feel very insignificant.

On the pitch though, both need wins as Arsenal hunt down the top 4 and Cardiff battle for survival.

Will Arsenal’s quality shine through?

Arsenal vs Cardiff City: Who will win?

Arsenal are huge favourites at 2/7 to claim all 3 points.

Cardiff have won just 1 away game all season and are 12/1 to pull off a major shock.

A draw, which Neil Warnock would be delighted with, is 5/1.

Over 2.5 goals is 1/2 and both teams to score is 10/11.

Arsenal won the reverse fixture 3-2 so the Gunners to win and both teams to score is 13/8.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored at the Cardiff City Stadium in August one of 17 goals he’s managed this season. He’s 14/5 to score first and 7/10 to net anytime.

Alexandre Lacazette also scored in South Wales. He’s 10/3 to break the deadlock and 17/20 to get his 11th of the season.

Oumar Niasse will lead the line for the visitors after joining on loan from Everton. The Senegalese international is 14/1 to score first and 15/4 to get his first Bluebirds goal.

Both Aubameyang and Lacazette to score is 3/1.

Arsenal vs Cardiff City: Match preview

There’s an odd mood around Arsenal right now.

In their last league match, they beat Chelsea 2-0 at home to cut the gap to fourth placed Chelsea to just 3 points.

However, on Friday night, they were outclassed by Manchester United in a 3-1 FA Cup fourth round defeat.

That, coupled with six first team players being injured and the lack of January transfer activity, means there is still a cloud over North London.

With a trip to Manchester City looming, they must not drop points here.

Cardiff suffered a potentially damaging defeat in their last match.

The Bluebirds were beaten 3-0 at St James’ Park by Newcastle.

That saw Newcastle leapfrog them in the table leaving Cardiff in the bottom 3 for the first time since November.

They have not played for 10 days as they were eliminated from the FA Cup earlier this month.

Can Cardiff get what would be a bonus point or even all 3?

Arsenal are running out of defenders.

Bernd Leno could be busy between the sticks.

He’ll come back in after Petr Čech started the FA Cup tie.

Ahead of that match, Rob Holding and Héctor Bellerín already faced long term injuries.

Furthermore, Laurent Koscielny and Sokratis Papastathopoulos both went off injured so will both be unavailable for the foreseeable future.

That could see 21-year old Konstantinos Mavropanos make his first appearance since being sent off at Leicester back in May.

In midfield, Lucas Torreira’s recent underwhelming performances could see him drop out.

Granit Xhaka will be at the base of the diamond with Aaron Ramsey and Mattéo Guendouzi further forward.

Mesut Özil came on for a rare cameo on Friday and could make his first start since Boxing Day.

Alex Iwobi would be the unfortunate man to drop out.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be back from an ankle injury in the next couple of weeks.

This 4-4-2 diamond does allow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to start through the middle together.

Will their attacking quality offset Arsenal’s defensive flaws?

As for Cardiff, they should be fresh after a 10 day break.

Goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has conceded the most goals in the Premier League (44) but has made the second most saves (85).

He’ll be expecting to be busy again.

Captain Sean Morrison will return to the XI after missing the Newcastle match due to a hospital procedure.

That’ll see Bruno Ecuele Manga move back to right-back.

Joe Ralls will probably retain his place ahead of Aron Gunnarsson in midfield.

They played 4-4-2 at Newcastle but expect more of a 4-5-1 here.

Víctor Camarasa will be the more advanced of the central midfielders.

Oumar Niasse will lead the line looking to get his first goal for his new club.

Can this Cardiff side cause an upset?
