As per a report from the Mirror, Tottenham are keen to beat North London rivals Arsenal to the signature of AS Roma starlet Cengiz Under.
Under’s Roma stint
Under, a 21-year-old Turkish international, arrived at the Stadio Olimpico from İstanbul Başakşehir last summer.
Roma splashed out a fee of €13.4 million on his signature, following Under’s hugely-impressive solitary campaign in the Super Lig.
The Giallorossi were rumoured to have beaten off interest from some of European football’s biggest clubs in securing a deal for the fleet-footed wide-man.
After struggling to find his feet during the early months of his time in the Italian capital, though, Under subsequently burst onto the scene with a string of sensational displays for Roma following the turn of the year.
Having failed to find the net during his first 6 months with the club, the winger went on to net 5 times over the space of 4 fixtures between the 4th and 21st of February, finally showcasing to fans of Eusebio Di Francesco’s men exactly why the club had agreed to fork out over 13 million Euro on his signature.
All told, Under racked up 8 goals and 2 assists across all competitions last season.
Tottenham steal a march
And the 10-time capped international has since enjoyed an equally-solid start to the current campaign. Between Serie A and the Champions League, Under has directly contributed to 8 goals for Roma.

As such, unsurprisingly, Under’s impressive form, coupled with his room for growth, have seen a number of the Premier League’s biggest clubs express an interest in the Turk of late.
A report from Calciomercato last month revealed that all of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal were keen on Under.
And, as per the aforementioned update from the Mirror this evening, the latter of these sides are now being strongly challenged by North London rivals Tottenham for the Roma winger’s signature.
Spurs have already seen an offer of around £30 million knocked back for Under, with Roma holding out for a figure closer to £45 million.
However, Mauricio Pochettino is said to be eager to add attacking reinforcements to his squad in January. And with the Tottenham board having not splashed out a single penny on arrivals during the summer, the capital outfit are now ready to back their manager with another big-money bid for Under following the turn of the year.
