Arsenal tipped for Houssem Aouar swoop as Lucas Torreira hints at exit

The latest speculation across the European media suggests that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Lyon star Houssem Aouar.

Lyon prodigy

Aouar, a gifted 22-year-old midfielder, has been on the books of Lyon since 2009.

After breaking into the first-team ranks of the Ligue 1 giants for the first time at the beginning of 2017, the Lyon native has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-regarded young talents in French football.

Aouar is regularly lauded for his technical ability and creative flair, and has already been likened to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta during his fledgling career.

However, the French U21-international is also not afraid to stick a foot in when required, making Aouar a highly-desirable, all-round modern midfielder.

Arsenal join hunt

Aouar’s talents, meanwhile, have seen the youngster rack up an impressive 9 goals and 7 assists across all competitions to this point in the current campaign, a return which has inevitably seen some of European football’s heavyweights named as keen admirers.

Thus far, the outfit most persistently linked with a move for the Lyon man have been Italian champions Juventus.

Recent months, however, have seen Manchester City position themselves firmly alongside the Bianconeri in the race for Aouar, with Pep Guardiola thought to be a huge fan of the midfielder’s talents.

In fact, reports late in April went as far as to suggest that the Sky Blues were set to open imminent negotiations with Lyon over Aouar’s signature.

Few updates regarding City’s interest, though, have since been forthcoming.

And, as outlined above, if the latest word stemming from France today is to be believed, then this has allowed another of the Premier League’s giants to register their interest in the 22-year-old.

The outfit in question? Arsenal.

The Gunners are known to be on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park ahead of next season, with the futures of both Dani Ceballos and Mesut Ozil still somewhat up in the air.

And, according to L’Equipe (via GFFN), who reiterate interest on the part of both Man City and Juventus, Aouar is one of the midfield options under consideration by the board at the Emirates.

The Frenchman’s rumoured price-tag could prove an obstacle, with Lyon reportedly seeking €60 million for their gifted technician, though it is hinted that such demands are unlikely to be met in the post-Covid-19 market.

‘If I have to leave…’

Interestingly, Arsenal’s links to Aouar come on the same day that one of the club’s current midfield options has hinted at a move away from the club.

Speaking in an interview earlier today, Lucas Torreira, who slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates over the final months of the season, suggested that he would not be opposed to departing north London this summer:

A return to Serie A has since been touted for the Uruguayan, with AC Milan and Fiorentina both tipped as potential landing spots:
