Arsenal & Ajax’s Marc Overmars
This isn’t the first time Arsenal have been linked with Ajax’s Marc Overmars.
Overmars remains an Arsenal icon after the Dutch winger’s stint at the Gunners from 1997 to 2000.
These days Overmars is the director of football at Ajax. He’s been in that role since 2012, while he’s under contract in Amsterdam until 2020.
Back in October 2017, rumours claimed that Overmars was heading back to Arsenal. However, as we know, that never happened.
Yet, this weekend the Mail on Sunday have revived that possible transfer rumour.
Will Overmars return to Arsenal?
The Mail on Sunday have an article titled “Marc Overmars the front runner to be Arsenal’s new director of football this summer with Monchi also in the frame”.
Have Arsenal started talks with Overmars? The Mail report:
Ajax have denied that the former Arsenal winger has been approached but he is among the candidates under consideration and has a CV that fits Arsenal’s criteria.
Of course, the context for these latest Overmars links is Sven Mislintat’s exit from Arsenal after a year with the north London club.
Mislintat, who joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund, was the club’s head of recruitment.

Overmars & Arsenal
Once a flying winger at Highbury, Overmars was nicknamed the roadrunner because of his blistering pace.
The Dutch star was a part of their double-winning side in 1998 before switching to Barcelona in a big-money move.
Overmars joined Arsenal from Ajax for £5.5m.
