Will Takuma Asano ever become a first team player at Arsenal?

The 21-year-old only signed for the Gunners from Sanfrecce Hiroshima in July 2016.

Fans were able to get a glimpse of him at the Olympics, where he impressed for Japan. He scored two goals in three games in Brazil, which piqued the interest of German club Stuttgart, who are currently in the second tier.

Asano is under contract at Arsenal until 2018, but it’s unclear whether he’ll ever get his chance at the club.

Last season Asano was farmed out to Stuttgart, and that’s on the agenda in 2017-18 too.

What’s the story?

Last season the 22-year-old Japan international scored four goals in the Bundesliga II, and 13 goals in 43 matches for club and country.

On Sunday night, Stuttgart’s sporting director Jan Schindelmeiser has confirmed the striker will stay in Germany next season too:

Takuma Asano will play with us next season. We have discussed this with him, his advisers and Arsenal.

Who is left?

Arsenal fans are unsure who will lead their attack at the start of next season.

Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette could be joining the club, but Arsenal run the risk of having few attacking options.

With Alexis Sanchez looking for an exit, Arsene Wenger has already allowed Yaya Sanogo to leave, while Joel Campbell is set to be off the roster too, and West Ham are trying to sign Olivier Giroud.
