AC Milan Arsenal Europa League

Arsenal stun the San Siro with shock AC Milan sucker punch

Away goal

Arsenal fans went into their Europa League clash with AC Milan predicting the worst after four consecutive defeats but what they got was a shock.

The Gunners were expected to be dominated in one of the greatest stadiums in world football.

Their recent form did very little to give Emirates fans any hope of getting a positive result away from home, especially against AC Milan.

The Italian’s were on a very good run of form under Gennaro Gattuso and that did little to help the nerves of Arsenal fans.

Though, what the Gunners saw in the first-half of the game has gone a long way to changing their tone.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave Arsenal an extremely shocking lead and, crucially, an away goal midway through the first-half.

Mesut Ozil’s stunning diagonal ball behind the defence found the Armenian was some time on the ball, smashing a shot that did deflect past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

While the young shot-stopper could argue that the deflection was the only reason they scored, you can’t deny that Arsenal deserved it.

Not only did Arsene Wenger’s side take the lead, they dominated the game and had several chances in the first half.

Danny Welbeck had the first chance five minutes in and really should have done better.

Jack Wilshere also had the chance to give Arsenal the lead but laid the ball to Mkhitaryan who could only hit the side netting.

Then, just when you thought they were going to go into the break 1-0 up, Mesut Ozil played in Aaron Ramsey to make it 2-0!

The only chance that AC Milan could have got back into the game was when David Ospina came storming out to stop Hakan Çalhanoğlu.

The Turkish star was through on goal and while attempting to win the ball, Ospina completely missed it.

Thankfully for Arsenal, Hakan attempted to remain honest and jumped over the goalkeeper but should he not have, it would have been a penalty.

Arsenal fans shocked

It’s safe to say that no one was expecting such a first-half performance, not even the Arsenal supporters.
